Job Description: KS3 SEN Teacher (Experienced in SEMH)

Job Purpose

The KS3 SEN Teacher will deliver tailored educational programs to students with SEMH needs, ensuring their academic, social, and emotional development. The role involves creating a nurturing learning environment, developing individualised learning plans, and working collaboratively with other staff members to support each student's unique needs.

  • Student Support:

    • Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, fostering a safe and supportive classroom environment.
    • Address student's SEMH needs through individualised education plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies.
    • Provide one-on-one and small group support as needed.
  • Collaboration:

    • Work closely with the SEN Coordinator, school counselors, and other staff to develop comprehensive support plans for students.
    • Liaise with parents, guardians, and external agencies to ensure consistent support for students.
    • Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings to review and plan for students' progress.
  • Professional Development:

    • Stay updated with the latest research, strategies, and best practices in SEMH and SEN education.
    • Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
    • Share expertise and knowledge with colleagues through mentoring, training sessions, and collaborative planning.
  • Qualifications:

    • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
    • Additional qualifications or training in SEN and/or SEMH is highly desirable.
  • Experience:

    • Proven experience working with Secondary students with SEMH needs.
    • Demonstrable experience in creating and implementing effective individualised education plans.
    • Experience in managing challenging behaviours and implementing behaviour intervention plans.
  • Skills and Abilities:

    • Strong understanding of SEMH issues and their impact on learning.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
    • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for supporting students with SEN.
