Summary

We have an exciting maternity cover opportunity to lead a team of Service Assistants at our Visitor Centre in Chartwell, one of the National Trust's key Portfolios. As Welcome Manager, you will be dynamic, engaging, curious, and have great people skills.

Reporting to the Property Operations Manager, and working closely with your peer at Emmetts Gardens and Quebec House, you will be leading the Welcome Team at Chartwell to provide the best experience for our visitors, welcoming and inviting them to support us in safeguarding the future of Chartwell. We strive and are currently focusing efforts through an Access Project on opening up the experiences we can offer to a broader range of audiences and reflect the changing needs of the communities that visit us and our local community, ensuring we live up to our mission of being for everyone, for ever.

As an iconic House known around the world as the home of Winston Churchill, sitting in an exquisite garden intricately designed with a variety of breathtaking views for acres around, Chartwell is one of the National Trust's most historic properties. We receive both national and international visitors, so our days are dynamic and never the same! What you'll be doing

As Welcome Manager, you will have day to day responsibility for the running of the Visitor Centre at our site, leading our team of brilliant Service Assistants and dedicated Volunteers.

Led by the Operations Manager, you’ll also work closely with property teams to identify and develop fundraising opportunities, leading the Welcome Team to put those at the heart of what they do, enabling and facilitating our collective success. You will inspire and engage the Welcome Team to deliver key fundraising and membership targets as part of our charitable cause, creating meaningful moments for new and existing supporters.

You will also support our Programming through participating in the delivery of exciting Events that we run as part of our year, as well as exciting new offers.

Using your communication and creative skills, you will motivate the Welcome Team and include our Volunteers in our efforts to make Chartwell a wonderful place to work in and visit, as well as learn about the key role we play in today's society as the National Trust.

As a key member of the Welcome Team, you will also get the opportunity to take on the role of Duty Manager for the day at regular intervals throughout each month, ensuring you get to work closely with all Teams on site. As part of this, weekend and some bank holiday working will be required. 

Who we're looking for
  • Good practical experience in visitor business,in tourist, heritage or relevant visitor services environment
  • Naturally curious about people, and with a passion to and experience of delivering the highest standards of customer service
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Confident leader, adaptable and responsive under pressure
  • Ability to initiate service recovery without senior support
  • Good IT skills (all MS Office)
