We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Student Support Assistant to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will provide essential support to our students, ensuring their educational, physical, and medical needs are met. You will work closely with teachers, therapists, and healthcare professionals to deliver personalized care and support that enhances each student's learning experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist students with PMLD, physical, and medical needs in their daily activities and learning.
  • Support the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Health Care Plans (HCPs).
  • Provide personal care, including feeding, toileting, and mobility assistance, ensuring the dignity and safety of students.
  • Assist with medical procedures and administer medication under the guidance of healthcare professionals.
  • Facilitate communication and interaction, using alternative communication methods where necessary.
  • Support classroom activities and sensory learning experiences.
  • Monitor and record student progress and well-being, reporting any concerns to the appropriate staff.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and parents to provide a holistic approach to student support.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay updated on best practices in SEN support.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children with PMLD, physical, and medical needs in a school or similar setting is highly desirable.
  • A caring, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting students with complex needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in SEN support and personal care (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ, or equivalent) is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of alternative communication methods (e.g., Makaton, PECS) is beneficial.
  • A valid Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
