Purpose of the Role:

The Senior Cost Engineer is responsible for managing the commercial and cost aspects of projects from inception to closeout. This role focuses on controlling costs, maximising value, minimising future liabilities, and maintaining cost control standards. The Senior Cost Engineer will support and coordinate projects within TEXO Engineering & Fabrication, using analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills while assisting the Divisional and Operations Director. Collaboration with the Engineering and Fabrication team and wider business is essential to ensure compliance with TEXO processes and procedures.

Key Relationships

  • Develop strong working relationships with the Engineering and Operations Directors
  • Collaborate with Finance, Team Leads, Project Managers (PMs), and Project Engineers (PEs)
  • Communicate effectively across departments for mutual benefit
  • Maintain positive communication with peers and customers
  • Train graduates and junior cost controllers as needed

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coach and mentor cost controllers daily
  • Assist PMs and PEs in preparing individual Cost Reports, comparing actual costs to budgets
  • Prepare and update the overall Live Project Cost Control Summary
  • Manage the SICON (Project Costing System) by inputting budgets and overseeing project status
  • Contribute to weekly update meetings with the Engineering Management Team
  • Track project completion dates and follow up as necessary
  • Initiate invoicing processes when projects are complete
  • Conduct weekly invoice and sales reviews with the TEXO Engineering Management Team
  • Improve sales and invoice reporting while planning monthly budget variances
  • Collaborate with Accounts for timely resolution of contractor invoice queries
  • Report on contract awards, tracking weekly project costs, value, and performance
  • Contribute to monthly reports indicating overrun risks and performance analysis
  • Report monthly Work in Progress (WIP) figures to the TEXO Engineering Management and Accounts Teams
  • Prepare sales invoices for approval by PMs, PEs, and the TEXO Management Team
  • Assist in monthly and quarterly reviews of the annual budget preparation
  • Raise awareness of commercial performance among the project team
  • Ensure ERP system maintenance and reconcile project cost reports
  • Oversee fabrication timekeeping and clocking systems
  • Ensure forecasting accuracy and manage contracts and procurement
  • Conduct cost value reconciliations and manage stakeholder relationships
  • Adhere to deadlines in line with the monthly commercial calendar

Qualifications & Key Requirements

  • Degree or HNC/HND preferred, ideally focusing on cost and commercial skills
  • Relevant experience in a similar industry
  • Extensive knowledge of cost control and reporting techniques
