Halton Borough Council is seeking an experienced Finance Officer to join our dedicated team on an initial 6-month contract, with the potential for extension. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with experience in local authority finance, particularly within schools and the Dedicated Schools Grant (DSG).

About the Role

As a Finance Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the financial management of our education and schools' services, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with financial regulations. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, including schools and education teams, to provide expert financial guidance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supporting the financial management of schools' budgets and DSG funding

  • Assisting with budget setting, monitoring, and forecasting

  • Preparing financial reports and analysis for senior management

  • Ensuring compliance with local authority financial regulations and policies

  • Providing financial advice and support to schools and education services

  • Contributing to financial planning and decision-making processes

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need:? Experience working in local authority finance, particularly within education and DSG? Strong knowledge of financial regulations and budget management within the public sector? Proficiency in financial systems and Microsoft Excel? Excellent analytical and communication skills? The ability to work independently and as part of a team
