The Role:

The People team is currently undergoing a period of positive change as we restructure to better support the evolving needs of the business. We are seeking an experienced manager with a strong background in both HR and Learning & Development to join our team. This individual will oversee and drive HR & L&D practices across the organization, ensuring alignment with our strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategy:

  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders across the business
  • Implement and embed the People Strategy consistently across all areas of MGF
  • Lead the People team to ensure the business is supported effectively and can adapt as required.
  • Coach and mentor the People team, supporting their development and growth.
  • Drive continuous improvement of the People Function by developing systems, processes, and practices in alignment with the overall company strategy.

HR:

  • Provide support and advice in accordance with legal and best practice requirements while being commercially aware of business needs.
  • Oversee the development of HR policies and procedures, applying them fairly and consistently.
  • Assist People Partners with advising and supporting on complex employee relations, performance management, and absence cases.
  • Maintain awareness and understanding of current HR legislative requirements and any proposed or future changes that may affect the company.

L&D:

  • Partner with Managers to create, develop, and support individual learning, succession, and talent plans, and create course content and learning solutions.
  • Identify and manage all training needs across the business, ensuring alignment with the overall strategy.
  • Identify new and innovative ways of offering and delivering training to maximize benefits for employees and the business.
  • Produce and maintain skills assessments, identify gaps, and implement development solutions to bridge skills gaps.
  • Manage the apprenticeship programs of employees, ensuring appropriate apprenticeships are selected and maintaining the Government Apprenticeship levy account.
  • Design and implement successful Leadership & Development Programmes in collaboration with internal stakeholders, whilst effectively managing any third party providers.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A confident, proactive, and resilient Manager with experience in both HR and L&D, ideally gained in construction, manufacturing, or engineering.
  • Willingness to travel to our depots on occasion and be visible across the entire business.
  • Commercially aware, able to interpret strategy into actions, and a proactive driver of continuous improvement to ensure HR and L&D practices meet the growing needs of the business.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and an effective coach and mentor, not only for the People team but also for managers across the business.
