Merco Recruitment is representing a leading Healthcare organisation in their search for a Deputy Ward Manager/Charge Nurse to join their team in a Hospital based in Cheadle. Dedicated to providing high-quality, innovative care through a holistic and integrated approach for patients with mental health conditions.
Located in scenic landscaped gardens in Cheadle, Stockport, this hospital offers comprehensive inpatient mental health services for both young people and adults. The hospital provides a range of specialized services, including the Bespoke Therapeutic Placement (BTP) service, which offers individualized care for patients with complex needs.
Role Purpose:
The Deputy Ward Manager is responsible for providing senior nursing leadership in support of the Ward Manager, ensuring the delivery of safe and therapeutic care for patients. The role requires strong clinical and leadership expertise to guide the nursing team, ensuring high standards of care and fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the ward nursing team, ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, families, and visitors.
• Apply relevant policies and statutory requirements, ensuring they are communicated effectively within the team.
• Assess and manage risk across the ward, ensuring statutory compliance and safety.
• Promote diversity and inclusion within the team, acting as a role model.
• Identify staffing needs and address deficits in skill mix and safe staffing levels.
• Supervise team members, contributing to their professional development, mandatory training, and performance appraisals.
• Act as a role model for a culture of learning, development, and teamwork.
• Support junior staff and student nurses on placement, providing guidance and mentorship.
• Monitor and evaluate therapeutic interventions, enabling patients to develop coping strategies.
• Contribute to effective multidisciplinary teamwork, problem-solving, and collaborative decision-making.
• Act as the named nurse for a small group of patients and provide leadership on shifts.
• Provide clinical supervision and take on lead roles as delegated by the Ward Manager.
• Deputise for the Ward Manager when required.
• Participate in recruitment and retention efforts for staff on the ward.

Requirements:
• Active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), with up-to-date revalidation.
• Trained Assessor/Supervisor with clinical supervision experience (training is desirable).
• Evidence of continued professional development (CPD) and a commitment to maintaining and developing leadership skills.
• Strong computer skills.
• At least 18 months to 2 years’ post-registration experience, with demonstrable expertise within a clinical specialty.
• Ability to work a regular shift pattern over a 7-day period.
