SEMH English Teacher

Cranborne, Dorset

30,000 - 44,870 per annum (M1 - UPS2)

Are you an English teacher with a flair for inspiring young minds?

Embark on a rewarding journey with an award-winning provider of pioneering SEND schools, colleges, and residential care homes in the picturesque village of Cranborne, Dorset.

PSR Solutions are on the lookout for an exceptional English Teacher to join an independent school dedicated to the holistic development of young people aged 11-16, all of whom have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and many with additional SEND such as Autism and ADHD.

In this unique role, you'll be more than just a teacher of English; you'll be a mentor, a guide, and a beacon of stability for your students. Your primary mission will be to build nurturing relationships, understand the individual needs of each child, and create a learning environment that is as engaging as it is educational. Whether you're guiding students through Entry Level, Functional Skills, Key Stage 3, or the GCSE curriculum, your high aspirations for their academic success will be pivotal. You'll focus on increasing academic and vocational qualifications, while also helping young people achieve independent living skills that will equip them for the next stage in their lives, be it further education, training, or work. You'll help the young people discover the magic in education and ignite a passion for learning that extends beyond the classroom.

Your goals:

  • To contribute to the delivery and development of the curriculum, taking into account the educational, physical, and social needs of the students within a stimulating learning environment.
  • You'll work collaboratively with other members of staff as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Maintain and use short-, medium-, and long-term plans in delivering the curriculum.
  • Setting, monitoring, and reviewing personalised targets to optimise learning for each individual
  • Contribute to the review of Statements and EHC plans, PEP, and LAC reviews.
  • You'll provide clear structures for lessons, maintaining pace, motivation, and challenge
  • Assist in developing the curriculum offer, keeping abreast of current issues in the field of autism to plan for effective teaching and learning.

To be successful in this role, you'll need essential qualifications such as:

  • A PGCE, QTS, or QTLS teaching qualification, and evidence of in-service training.
  • Teaching from Entry level 2 & 3, Functional Skills Level 1 & 2, and GCSEs in English and one other subject to GCSE Level is required.
  • Experience in a school environment, ideally in specialist education, is desirable.
  • You should possess the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Have good teaching and communication skills, both written and verbal, and demonstrate effective skills in planning, preparation, recording, and reviewing students' progress.
  • Good IT skills and an understanding of how IT can support learning are essential
  • The ability to remain calm and reflective when working in a challenging environment.
  • Proven ability to work on your own initiative, be well-organized, prioritise effectively, and achieve results against deadlines

The benefits of joining this esteemed institution are numerous, including life assurance, a competitive pension, vouchers for high street discounts, an employee assistance programme, a car lease scheme, fully funded training and qualifications, a bike-to-work scheme, and free membership to a Health cash back plan to claim back money on services such as dental, optical, physio, and many more.

This role isn't just a job; it's a chance to be part of a national organisation that values your skills and potential, offering opportunities for career growth and leadership development.

Safeguarding is at the heart of our client's ethos, with all staff expected to share a commitment to the welfare of children and young people, and rigorous checks and DBS certifications required.

Join a team where your input in decision-making is valued, and where you can make a tangible difference in the lives of young learners. If you have the passion, the patience, and the dedication to be part of this transformative journey, we would love to hear from you!
