Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer responsible for developing engineering concepts and solutions under the supervision of the Principle Engineer, Engineering Manager, or Engineering & Projects Director. This role involves producing compliant and functional mechanical equipment designs ready for manufacture.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Develop engineering concepts and technical solutions that comply with both company and international standards.
  • Engineer mechanical equipment to a level sufficient for manufacture and functionality.
  • Check and issue design and process documents.
  • Substantiate and validate design outputs.
  • Produce engineering designs and associated documents (drawings, calculations, reports) and ensure completion within required timescales.
  • Issue engineering documents as required.
  • Assist in clerical and administrative duties to support the Engineering Department.
  • Progress small to medium-sized engineering projects with minimal supervision but in regular consultation with the Head of Department or team members.
  • Engage in all aspects of the design process, including drafting and testing products, as well as other organisational tasks to ensure timely progress of projects.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proficient in concept, scheme, and detail design engineering.
  • Experienced with SolidWorks, 3D CAD.
  • Conversant with working to international standards.
  • Strong analytical skills with a solid foundation in mathematical and engineering calculations.
  • Effective reporting skills to communicate with the Engineering & Projects Director.
  • Degree, HNC/HND in a relevant field (Significant experience and references in engineering activities, particularly in the Nuclear industry or similar industries, will be highly valued).
  • Must meet the requirements to pass a BPSS check and undergo a security clearance (SC) check. At least 5 years' UK residency is normally required for SC clearance.
