Full-Time Teaching Assistant - Supporting Child with Down's Syndrome

Are you a caring, dedicated, and patient individual looking to make a real difference in a child's educational journey? We are seeking a Full-Time Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a child with Down's Syndrome in a warm and welcoming primary school based in Winchester.



About the Role:

This rewarding position involves supporting the child's learning and development within the classroom, helping them to access the curriculum and reach their full potential. You'll work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to implement strategies tailored to the child's individual needs.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualised support for a child with Down's Syndrome, both academically and socially

  • Support the implementation of EHCP targets and differentiated learning plans

  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive environment that promotes confidence and independence

  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and parents to monitor progress and adapt support as needed

  • Encourage participation in all school activities and routines



Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with children with special educational needs (SEN), particularly Down's Syndrome (preferred but not essential)

  • A patient, positive, and compassionate approach to working with children

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • A good understanding of inclusive teaching practices and child development

  • Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant certificate (desirable)
