H9 Technical Recruitment are looking to hire a Risk Manager to work at our EfW clients office in Hampshire to be responsible for proactively identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks related to plant operations. The primary objective is to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of power plants in the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) sector

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Risk Assessments: Conduct regular assessments to identify and mitigate operational, financial, safety, and environmental risks.
  • Critical Systems & Processes: Determine the most critical equipment and processes essential to plant operations and assess where the highest risks are present.
  • Action Plans: Develop action plans to mitigate high-priority risks, such as preventive maintenance schedules, safety protocols, and contingency plans.
  • O&M Mobilization: Lead the mobilization of O&M activities, ensuring smooth project handover and optimal ongoing plant operation.
  • Continuous Improvement (COE): Champion continuous improvement efforts across operations, including cost optimization and efficiency enhancements.
  • Safety Measures: Ensure that all safety measures are in place, such as comprehensive safety training programs, protective equipment, and emergency response plans.
  • Digitalization: Drive the digitalization of processes within O&M for improved efficiency.
  • Maintenance Strategy: Collaborate with O&M teams to optimize maintenance strategies, balancing costs with risks to maximize reliability and performance.
  • Operational Governance: Ensure the implementation of a structured operating model, governance framework, and clearly defined roles and responsibilities
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed of regulatory changes that could affect plant operations and risk management and ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • This role is designed for professionals with significant experience in power plant operations, O&M leadership, and risk management.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Power Plant Operations & Engineering: Extensive experience in power plant operations, maintenance, or engineering is essential.
  • Prior exposure to risk management in the energy sector is highly preferred.
  • O&M Business Expertise: Strong understanding of Operations and Maintenance (O&M) business principles.
  • Power Plant Systems Knowledge: Deep knowledge of power plant systems, equipment, and processes, including operations.
  • Industry Legislation: Demonstrable expertise in industry standards, regulatory requirements, and local legislation relevant to power plant operations.
  • Leadership & Management: Strong leadership abilities with skills in prioritization, decision-making, and team management.
  • Risk Management Tools: Proficiency in using risk assessment tools like HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study) and similar methodologies.
  • Matrix Organization Experience: Ability to effectively work within a matrixed organization, utilizing available resources efficiently.
  • Continuous Improvement: A mindset focused on continuous improvement and root cause analysis.
  • Negotiation & Influence: Strong negotiation and influencing skills to lead teams and communicate with stakeholders.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of financial management and the ability to apply this knowledge to O&M operations.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluent in verbal and written English, with proficiency in additional languages being an advantage.
