About the Role:We are seeking experienced EHC Coordinators (SEN Caseworkers) to join our team and support the Education, Health, and Care (EHC) needs assessment process. You will be responsible for managing casework for children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN), ensuring statutory deadlines are met, and providing guidance and support to parents, schools, and other professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage EHC needs assessments for a set locality and ensure the accurate and timely processing of cases.
  • Act as the first point of contact for day-to-day casework, including the annual review of EHC plans.
  • Provide advice and support to parents, schools, and professionals, ensuring compliance with the SEN Code of Practice and relevant legislation.
  • Attend and represent the Local Authority at annual review meetings, offering recommendations for provision and placement based on thorough knowledge of SEN processes.
  • Ensure all information is recorded accurately in relevant databases (SEN Hub, Capita One, etc.) and that statutory deadlines are met.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 12 months of experience in a similar role within a Local Authority, handling caseloads of 250+.
  • Proven experience in handling EHC assessments, tribunals, and preparing assessment packs.
  • Strong knowledge of SEN legislation, including the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEN Code of Practice.
  • Experience managing high volumes of telephone calls and correspondence, and maintaining case files.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive and complex queries, often under pressure, while maintaining high standards of communication.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • A-levels or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant experience in education administration.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly in database management.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex procedures clearly.
  • Ability to manage stressful situations calmly and professionally, showing sensitivity to the needs of parents and professionals.
