Control Room Operator

Duration - 6 Months with scope to extend or get perm

Location - Windsor (3 x 12h shifts a week)

We have an exciting opportunity for anyone looking to be part of the developing UK energy industry as part of a 24/7 Control Room team based in the client's head office in Windsor.

The Control Room Operator is required for a key role in the Energy & Controls Centre, which forms part of the O&M function of the Power business.

The role will provide an opportunity to work with the support and monitoring of generators such as peaking power plants, BESS (battery energy storage systems), CHPs (Combined Heat and Power units) and solar PV. The role will also provide exposure to ICS (Industrial Control Systems), the surrounding OT (Operational Technology) Cyber Security and BEMS (Building Energy Management Systems).

Shift Pattern:

The current shift pattern will require 3 x 12hr shifts a week, with potential night shifts and some flexibility to cover sickness/holidays.

The Control Room Operator role would suit a candidate who possesses the skills necessary to effectively interpret data from multiple sources, react promptly to event notifications and follow established procedures to rectify and escalate issues, in line with contractual obligations. Whilst on duty the Control Room Operator, is responsible for taking initiative and making decisions, you will play a key role in limiting our financial exposure related to unplanned outages. Use of common Windows software will be required daily.

Accountabilities

  • Monitoring client's and customer assets to maximise efficiency in line with contractual terms
  • Managing and prioritising incoming event notifications to comply with relevant contractual obligations
  • Providing professional, concise communications to a variety of internal and external customers and stakeholders
  • Maintain accurate records of all tasks undertaken on our internal web-based monitoring tool
  • Ensuring a comprehensive and thorough handover takes place between shift teams to maintain continuity of safe operations and ensure ongoing knowledge of work activities
  • Working efficiently in an SLA (Service Level Agreement) driven team environment
  • Producing reports detailing asset availability and performance patterns
  • Adhering to all applicable company policies, procedures and business ethics codes

Experience

  • An electricalbackground or experience of working in a control room environment or other relevant operations or engineering
  • An understanding of how asset and network monitoring systems create indications and alarms.
  • The ability to work in a process orientated environment ensuring we carry out our role with a fierce focus on safety.
  • Good logical, analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and be organised.
  • To be a team player, with the ability to motivate, encourage and work with other control room personnel.
  • Basic IT skills required, general MS tools.
