We are seeking a dedicated Payroll and HR Officer to provide effective and efficient payroll cover and HR control within our company. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, working to tight deadlines while maintaining high levels of accuracy and attention to detail. As a key member of a small team, you will need to use your initiative, excellent time management skills, and a flexible approach to manage a challenging and varied workload.

Day-to-day of the role:

Payroll Responsibilities:

  • Process payroll on a weekly and monthly basis, including preparation and verification of timesheets and actual payment processing in Sage 50 Payroll.
  • Administer all pension scheme processes weekly.
  • Manage the annual leave system continuously.
  • Ensure timesheets accurately reflect work undertaken.
  • Upload weekly rotas into our time and attendance system.

Human Resource Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all recruitment and selection activities, including advertising, processing applications, and scheduling interviews.
  • Manage and maintain contracts, personnel files, and other employee information in compliance with legislation.
  • Draft routine correspondence and document templates, such as forms, letters, and spreadsheets.
  • Conduct inductions and return-to-work meetings.
  • Manage HR-related administrative tasks such as filing, shredding, faxing, and scanning, adhering to legislation including Data Protection.
  • Assist with preparations for disciplinary and grievance hearings.
  • Update company handbook and policies with the support of external legal professionals.
  • Assist line managers with performance-related matters, including annual performance reviews.
  • Maintain and develop the company’s positive and progressive culture.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Previous payroll experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a similar HR supportive role.
  • Knowledge of employment law, ACAS Code of Practice, and European employment legislation.
  • CIPD qualification is desirable.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Experience with Sage 50 Payroll is highly desirable.
  • Excellent time management, organisational, and administrative skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • High levels of discretion.
