Assistant Production Manager

We are seeking an Assistant Production Manager to oversee production processes and coordinate activities to ensure the production schedule is fulfilled. This role involves taking ownership of certain areas of the Production function, maintaining high employee motivation and morale, and ensuring compliance with all general & H&S training requirements.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Lead production teams to meet service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Raise non-compliances and near misses, ensuring corrective action is completed and verified.
  • Maintain company standards and escalate concerns in a timely manner.
  • Identify and implement process efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with departments to prioritise production schedules and meet customer demand.
  • Analyse and maintain reports to assess workload, plan staffing requirements, and manage staff holidays.
  • Partner with the Production Manager to achieve productivity targets.
  • Support, mentor, and develop direct reports for effective team management and process enhancement.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders to maintain communication and understanding.
  • Review performance and identify training needs.
  • Drive root cause analysis and product quality standards with the Quality function.
  • Introduce and communicate new KPIs to the teams.
  • Ensure adherence to and development of SOPs.
  • Maintain a positive presence on the production floor.
  • Manage HR & H&S requirements in collaboration with relevant departments.
  • Recruit and manage staff as required.
  • Support and encourage company values in all activities.
  • Deliver ad hoc project work as needed.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Drive and enthusiasm for promoting a positive Health & Safety and change culture.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, motivational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver results to tight deadlines.
  • Competent in problem-solving, team building, planning, and decision-making.
  • Flexible attitude to work and a “completer-finisher” mindset.
  • Experience in handling personnel issues and a methodical approach with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and exceptional people management experience.
  • Ability to deliver production and improvement targets within budgetary constraints.
