This is a fantastic opportunity to make an real impact. Thurrock Borough Council are going through an exciting period of change and transformation, and as a result they are looking for an Employee Relations Team Leader to manage the full spectrum of HR Advisory. This role will be the first point of contact for all complex case work, working in collaboration with the HR Business Partners and Trade Union Representatives to resolve sensitive employee relation / industrial relation matters across the Local Authority. Supporting a team of 6, this role will be responsible for building and developing the capability of those under their leadership to build in best practice and a consultative, proactive approach to their service delivery.

Other responsibilities will include;

  • Providing expert advice and guidance on up-to-date employment legislation, organisational policies, procedures and best practice
  • Managing complex, challenging casework, advising on organisational risk
  • Reporting to senior leadership on data analytics, identifying patterns and trends
  • Working alongside HR Business Partners to maintain strong working relations with Trade Unions
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of HR and ER services in line with People Strategy

We're looking for a meticulous Employee Relations specialist, with a proven track record resolving high profile, complex casework independently. As the Subject Matter Expert, we are looking for someone that enjoys being the "go-to" person for all things relating to employment legislation, but equally someone that is looking to share and widen their experience within a leadership capacity. Going through this large period of change, the successful individual should be able to work in an agile way, adapting accordingly and working in a collaborative, consultative way to coach and guide both the team and leadership through any evolving processes. Previous experience across the Public Sector would be advantageous in this role, understanding of how to navigate complex, political environments, trade unions and the governance structures.
