Our client, an esteemed educational institution, is seeking a Deputy Payroll Manager to join their team on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave. As the Deputy Payroll Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that their Payroll and IR35 processes are compliant and efficient. Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the Payroll team to deliver accurate and timely payroll services, including Monthly, Casual, Visiting Lecturer, Bursary, and IR35 payrolls.
  • Manage the end-to-end Visiting Lecturer Payroll, ensuring proper contract alignment, processing of claim forms, payroll runs, report generation, and HMRC submissions.
  • Respond to inquiries from stakeholders, providing exceptional customer service and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external parties.
  • Plan and prioritise workload to meet deadlines, demonstrating excellent organisational skills.
  • Support the Payroll and Payments Manager in overseeing the Monthly expenses process.
  • Monitor Payroll, IR35, and Expenses legislation to ensure compliance, updating University policies accordingly.
  • Prepare management and statistical reports for various stakeholders, contributing to informed decision-making.
  • Oversee the IR35 process, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations and providing support to the IR35 team.
  • Provide training and guidance to the Payroll team, promoting their professional development.
  • Continually review and improve Payroll and IR35 processes to enhance efficiency and generate cost savings.
  • Act as the deputy for the Payroll Manager when required, covering all aspects of the role.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a payroll-focused role, with a solid understanding of payroll processes and legislation.
  • Familiarity with IR35 regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Strong line management skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling effective interaction with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in using payroll software and systems.
  • CIPP (Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals) membership desired.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach, able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
