About the Role of a Supervising Social Worker:

As a Supervising Social Worker, youll play a crucial role in ensuring high-quality foster care by providing regular supervision and support to foster carers. This role involves a close, collaborative relationship with foster carers, guiding them to offer the best possible care. You will also be responsible for recruiting, training, and assessing new foster carers, working with children from diverse backgrounds, including those with disabilities.

Key Responsibilities of a Supervising Social Worker:

  • Conduct monthly supervision visits with foster carers, plus regular telephone support and unannounced visits
  • Lead and facilitate skills training for potential and current carers
  • Carry out competency-based Form F assessments for prospective foster carers
  • Facilitate respite care assessments and support panels as required
  • Lead monthly support groups for carers
  • Participate in annual reviews of carers
  • Engage in recruitment events and initial home visits for potential carers
  • Ensure suitable placements by carefully matching children with carers equipped to meet their needs
  • Gather essential documentation and assessments in coordination with Local Authorities
  • Prioritise child protection and safeguarding in all aspects of the role
  • Maintain active communication with Local Authority contacts to support care plans
  • Prepare and present reports for childrens reviews, case conferences, court proceedings, and other meetings
  • Support carers in preparing young people for semi-independent and independent living
  • Carry out evening and weekend visits as needed

Skills and Experience Required

  • Registration as a Social Worker and a Social Work qualification (e.g., CQSW, DipSW, or equivalent)
  • A minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience in Social Work, with at least 2 years in Fostering
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, as this role involves travel across the region. This is a hybrid role with time split between our Wolverhampton office, home, and regional visits.
