About the Role
Main Contractor clients are after an experienced Design Compliance Manager to join their East London team.
This is a permanent, full-time position. Knowledge of the BSA is an essential requirement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leads and manages the Design Management (DM) Team, design consultants, and subcontractors to ensure the delivery of a comprehensive, high-quality, and detailed construction package, meeting all requirements of the MCL contract. This includes adherence to project procurement schedules, employer requirements, and budget constraints.
- Ensures all designs meet stringent requirements, including current building regulations, industry standards, legislation, planning consents, section 106 obligations, employer requirements, and contract terms and conditions.
- Monitors design progress and manages teams to deliver projects within the agreed contract program and budget constraints.
- Employs a rigorous quality assurance process to ensure designs are comprehensive, detailed, and meet all contract requirements and quality benchmarks.
- Ensures all designs adhere to health and safety regulations, including Construction (Design & Management) Regulations.
- Prioritizes efficient and economical design solutions without compromising quality or compliance, achieving the optimal balance of high-quality information, budget management, and project schedules.
- Reviews and comments on key package tender lists, advising the Commercial Manager on potential concerns or recommending alternative contractors.
- Conducts regular design progress reviews against the target master design and procurement programs, collaborating with operational and commercial leads (Commercial Manager or Managing Surveyor) to develop mitigation strategies as needed.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- ARB, RIBA, or MCIAT membership, and/or a Degree in Architecture or Architectural Technology (or equivalent).
- Minimum of 20 years of experience within the construction industry.
- At least 15 years of post-qualification experience as an Architect or Architectural Technologist, operating at a management level with a strong focus on residential development.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Senior Design Manager Lead on medium and high-rise (over 18m) residential and mixed-use construction projects, with a high degree of technical, logistical, or program complexity.
- Experience working on mixed-tenure developments for Local Authorities and Housing Associations.
- Proven ability to plan, coordinate, and manage multidisciplinary design teams.
- A proven track record in delivering detailed designs for residential and mixed-use schemes.
- Strong leadership qualities with a can-do attitude, leading by example, and fostering a collaborative team environment.
- Thorough knowledge of planning legislation, building regulations, relevant British Standards, NHBC warranty requirements, and construction methods.
- Strong understanding of the RIBA Plan of Work, procurement and construction processes, and various forms of contracts, including JCT Design & Build TDC Agreements and domestic subcontracts.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
