We currently have an exciting opportunity for a hardworking, dedicated plant operator to join our small Woodyard team in the role of Project Engineer in the Workington Mill. Joining us on a full-time, permanent basis, you will receive a competitive salary and become part of our welcoming team.

Holmen Board & Paper is a Swedish business and a member of the Holmen Group. The Workington Mill produces premium paperboard under the brand Incada. Our paperboard is an integral part of the shopping experience for our clients’ customers. Since 2013 we have powered the mill almost entirely by fossil fuel free energy. Our integrated pulp and paperboard mill is located to the west of the beautiful Lake District in the north of England.

About the Project Engineer role:

A new position has arisen in the Projects Department for a Project Engineer reporting to the Project Team Manager.  The successful candidate will develop, execute and lead projects where required. 

Our Project Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Leading and managing investment projects from pre-study to implementation.
  • Participating in investment projects led by others, from pre-study to implementation.
  • Support and contribute technical skills (E/I, Automation or Mechanical discipline) in project teams.
  • Responsibility for delivering projects on budget, on time and functioning in line with specification.
  • Manage and lead contractors/consultants and coordinate resources on ongoing joint projects.
  • Producing clear and accurate specifications including agreed Company engineering standards for the procurement and installation of equipment, in contractual form where necessary.
  • Arranging for equipment numbers to be provided and preventive maintenance schedules to be introduced for new equipment.
  • Procurement and integration of adequate spare parts inventory and documentation to support new equipment introduced into the mill.
  • Providing information to enable training for operators, supervisors, technicians and craft personnel. 

Our Project Engineer will possess:

  • A minimum qualification of HNC in the appropriate discipline, with a preference for degree.
  • Experience of leading and managing projects.
  • Appropriate training in Health & Safety (IOSH Managing Safely).
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ideally, some experience in the paper and board industry or another heavy engineering/process industry.
