An amazing secondary school/ pupil referral unit in Workington, West Cumbria are seeking an experienced teacher to undertake the role of Tutor to start as soon as possible.

The school provides a specialist learning environment for pupils aged 10 - 16 with social, emotional and mental health difficulties ( SEMH ), as well as special educational needs including ASC, MLD and ADHD.

The school require a Tutor to start in as soon as possible, with potential of permanent roles becoming available in July 2025.

The position will involve supporting 3 pupils per day, on a full time, 1:1 basis, and therefore the school are looking for someone with experience of supporting pupils in an SEN or PRU setting, and are able to work closely with pupils who present with a range of additional needs. The ideal candidate for this Tutor role will demonstrate resilience and confidence when developing relationships with students on a 1:1 basis.

Holding a teaching qualification (QTS ideally) is highly desirable for the school, and the successful candidate will be responsible for teaching across Maths, English, Science and Personal Skills. Due to the additional needs demonstrated by students, attainment levels are often below age related expectations, and therefore a Key Stage 2 experienced primary teacher would be well suited to this role. Although a secondary trained teacher with SEN experience will also be considered, and the school provide support with planning.

Rates of pay are available from £150 - £223.63 per day (£30-35 per hour), dependant upon experience. And Tradewind proudly pay directly via PAYE through our own amazing in-house payroll team, without the need to sign up with a third party umbrella company!!

Responsibilities as part of this teaching Tutor role include:

  • Plan and deliver tailored 1:1 sessions for students with a range of additional needs, who are unable to access mainstream education
  • Work closely with pupils aged across KS3 - KS4, teaching Maths, English, Science and Personal Skills
  • Differentiate for a range of abilities, working alongside EHCPs to inform planning
  • Develop positive relationships with students to help maximise engagement and attainment

To join us and be successful in this Tutor role in Workington, you will need to:

  • Have an enhanced DBS certificate (or be happy to apply for a new one), Overseas Police Clearances (if applicable) and professional references checks.
  • Provide a CV with at least 10 years employment/education history included and any employment breaks must be explained.
  • Hold QTS or an equivalent teaching qualification
  • Have the legal right to work in the UK.
