Learning Support Assistant at a Special School (Worthing)

Are you passionate about making a real difference in children's lives? We are looking for a Learning Support Assistant to join our dedicated team at a special school in Worthing, supporting pupils aged 4-11 with complex needs.

Role Details:

  • Job Title: Learning Support Assistant
  • Location: Worthing, West Sussex
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm
  • Type: Full-time, Term-time only

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will be working with children who are non-verbal, have autism, or require tube feeding. The children in our school have a wide range of complex needs, and some may exhibit challenging behaviors, including hitting, biting, or attempting to run away. Your role will be to support them with patience, understanding, and a calm approach, helping to create a safe and nurturing environment.

What We're Looking For:

  • A patient, empathetic, and caring individual to take on the role of Learning Support Assistant
  • Experience working with children with special educational needs or challenging behaviors (preferred but not essential)
  • A background in care or previous experience supporting individuals with complex needs
  • Resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure when dealing with challenging situations
  • Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively with pupils, parents, and staff

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assisting teachers in the delivery of individualised education plans as a Learning Support Assistant
  • Supporting pupils in their day-to-day activities and learning
  • Managing challenging behaviors, including physical interventions when necessary, with the support of the wider team
  • Providing personal care and assistance, including tube feeding where required
  • Helping to create a positive and engaging learning environment in your role as a Learning Support Assistant
