MERJE is thrilled to be partnering with a leading Financial Services client on an exciting opportunity for a Head of Audit role. This senior position, designated as SMF5, offers the unique challenge of building and leading an in-house audit function from the ground up. The Role:

  • Develop an annual, risk-based Audit Plan, prioritising reviews with clear, risk-focused justifications.
  • Coordinate specialist third-party services for technical audits, while personally leading key internal reviews.
  • Ensure the audit plan is delivered on time and within the approved budget.
  • Produce detailed, well-structured reports for the Board and Executive Committee, highlighting key risks and the effectiveness of controls in relation to the business.
  • Maintain independence as a credible third line of defence, adhering to best practices in internal audit.
  • Build strong relationships with management to support the timely completion of actions arising from audit findings.
  • Lead initiatives to strengthen the organisation's risk management and control culture.

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of internal audit standards and regulatory requirements within financial services.
  • Expertise in internal control systems and audit practices relevant to financial institutions.
  • Extensive experience in conducting internal audits in a regulated financial services environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence senior leadership and manage complex communications with a range of stakeholders.
  • Proven senior leadership experience, with the ability to guide and influence at the executive and board level.
  • Regulatory approval for the SMF5 role (prior SMF5 experience not required).
