Role Purpose and Department PurposeThe Production Planner/Buyer is responsible for coordinating and reporting on the production fulfilment process to meet the Production Planning Schedules. This includes managing materials shortages for Sales, Project, and Engineering requirements, ensuring the on-time fulfilment of Work in Progress (WIP). Additionally, this role includes carrying out purchasing activities as required.The Role and Role Specific Competencies

  • Monitor Production Plans: Ensure the timely execution of production plans, communicating any delays to relevant stakeholders.
  • Investigate Issues: Investigate production problems, delays, interruptions, and shortages, providing solutions to resolve them.
  • Monitor Material Shortages: Work closely with the Purchasing Team to monitor and chase material shortages.
  • WIP Management: Monitor and manage WIP build, kit progress in stores, and the progress of work orders to achieve sales order/engineering requirements using Syspro.
  • Action Slow-Moving WIP: Ensure that aged WIP is kept to a minimum by closely monitoring and acting on slow-moving WIP.
  • Work with Production Cells: Collaborate with assigned Production Cells to ensure on-time delivery of WIP and meet customer sales order/engineering/project delivery requirements.
  • Monitor WIP Jobs: Regularly review WIP jobs, ensuring job completion and reducing open WIP jobs.
  • Engineering Change Notes (ECNs): Coordinate and action ECNs and non-conformities (PQQs) on behalf of the Materials Control function for assigned products/production cells.
  • Inventory Management: Assist in planning inventory management processes to avoid shortages and excesses.
  • Create Reports: Create and maintain reports for production planning activities and sequences.
  • Stock Take: Participate in stock take activities.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to improvement activities, balancing customer service levels with cost and inventory.
  • Represent Production Planning: Represent the Production Planning function in meetings for sales orders, projects, and NPI requirements.
  • Generate KPIs: Assist with the generation of key performance indicators for the materials function.
  • Document Processes & Procedures: Assist with generating and documenting processes and procedures for the materials function.
  • Cover for Team Members: Provide cover for other members of the Materials Control Team as required.
  • Procurement Activities: Analyse, prioritise, and action "Buy Messages" generated via the Syspro MRP system by raising Supplier Purchase Orders to meet production and engineering/project schedules.
  • Supplier Communication: Communicate with suppliers to chase outstanding items highlighted via overdue reports to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Procure Materials: Procure materials and raise purchase orders to complete NSPR requests.

Knowledge, Skills and ExperienceEssential:

  • Proven experience in a Production Planning/Materials Controller role in a manufacturing/engineering environment.
  • Syspro User (Syspro 7+ ideal).
  • Experience with MRP systems in the planning function.
  • Strong MS Office skills, particularly in Excel.

Desirable:

  • Previous purchasing experience.
  • Power BI experience.

QualificationsEssential:

  • Relevant qualifications in Production Planning, Materials Management, or similar fields.
