Sonic Summary

info
  • Reed Tutors is recruiting SEMH/SEN Home Tutors to work with children in Yeovil who require education outside of mainstream schooling.
  • Candidates should have a Teaching Degree or FE Qualifications, and a PGCE, with experience in teaching children at Key Stage 3-4 and some Primary age.
  • The role involves delivering tailored lessons primarily in Maths and English, with a focus on engaging children through their interests and innovative teaching methods.
  • Tutors can expect to work between 8-23 hours per week, with pay ranging from £30-35 per hour depending on the nature of the program.
  • Excellent communication skills and empathy are essential, as tutors will interact with parents, guardians, and external agencies while supporting the child's educational journey.

Reed Tutors are currently recruiting for several SEMH/SEN Home Tutors. The role itself will be working with children who live in Yeovil, who access education outside of ‘normal’ schooling. This could be children who are too anxious to attend mainstream school, or display some challenging behaviour, or have been excluded, or have medical difficulties, or are in between settings (so have been pulled from mainstream and are awaiting an SEN school placement). It can also include working with looked after children in care homes. The children are often Key Stage 3-4, but we do get some Primary children referrals too and each case is unique, of which you will be given full background information/EHCP on the child. The children are either taught at home and/or remotely at present through Teams/ Zoom etc. Usual allocation of education hours is split between Monday and Friday, usually anywhere between 8-23 hours per week. For much of the time, the work delivered is Maths and English, but creativity and innovativeness will be requited when delivering these lessons due to the different types of learners that these children are. It’s also super important to engage them with their interests, to get the most out of them. You will need to be an excellent communicator as you may be asked to correspond with Somerset Council as well as myself and the parents/guardians of the child, and sometimes external agencies like care homes/ police etc. You will also be trustworthy and empathetic – the child needs to know you will not give up on them, and you will be there for them to help and support them through their education. We will have lots of children requiring tuition in the coming months and so you could do just work with 1-2 pupil if you are looking for part time work, or you could do 2-3 children if you are looking for full time work. The pay is £30-35 per hour, this is based on whether the programme is mainly tuition or mentoring based.

Requirements:

  • Teaching Degree or FE Qualifications.
  • PGCE; (either primary or secondary)
  • Subject to excellent references.
  • It is desirable to have a DBS on the update services.
