About the role

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) is working to speed up and support the transition to a more equitable and just future, free from poverty, in which people and planet can flourish. Inspired by the work of our founder over a century ago, today we are an independent, social change organisation, with an endowment, working across all nations of the UK. We are also the parent organisation of the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust (JRHT) which provides housing and care services in Yorkshire and the North East.

We now have an exciting opportunity to fill a new role supporting the JRF Group Chief Executive, providing senior-level advice, leadership and support across a range of issues relating to the sound running of the JRF Group.

Working closely with the Group CEO and the Managing Director of JRHT, as well as Trustees and Board Members and the Executive teams, you will oversee the Group’s specialist governance, planning, performance and risk functions, helping to ensure the sound running of the organisation.

You will ensure the CEO is fully supported in their JRF-focused role by assisting with planning and prioritisation, acting on their behalf for delegated matters, supporting them in a range of ad hoc issues raised and nurturing external relationships on behalf of the CEO and the organisation. Working alongside the JRF Executive, you will also work on the Foundation’s mission-related work, helping to shape aspects of it by leading on cross-organisation issues and priorities in addition to aspects of organisational strategy.

About you

As Associate Director CEO’s Office, you will have experience working in a complex organisation with a strong understanding of the importance of good governance and how to ensure good practice in this area. Experience in line-management of high-performing teams and leading on the planning and performance of complex work programmes are both key for this role. Drawing on your experience working with Executive teams and Boards (or equivalent), you will be comfortable handling complex and challenging matters sensitively and will be able to operate at a strategic level.

A dynamic leader, someone who can work with complexity to shape the direction of travel, you will be results-oriented, accurate and thorough, with a real passion and energy for getting things done. A natural listener and collaborator and a role model for diversity and inclusion, you will have the ability to empower managers and teams to promote the Group’s values and mission.
