GSL Education are seeking a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a SEN Secondary School located in York, North Yorkshire, starting as soon as possible. As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to secondary school students with additional learning needs.

The school provides education and essential life skills to secondary aged students with severe and complex needs. Every student at the school has an Education, Health and Care Plan for needs such as Autism, Severe Learning Difficulties, Multi-Sensory Impairments and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties. After years of intensive research, the school has created personalised curriculums for each student, with outcomes in line with their EHCP.

SEN Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Offer 1:1 and small group support in and out of the classroom.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external agencies to track and communicate student's progress.
  • Assist with classroom tasks and promote engagement in lessons.
  • Implement strategies to support the student's emotional, social, and academic development.
  • Encourage independence while maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment.

SEN Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Right to work in the UK.
  • A genuine passion for supporting students with SEN.
  • Experience working with SEN students, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Hold an enhanced Child or Child and Adult Workforce DBS, registered on the update service, or be willing to obtain one through GSL Education.
  • Knowledge of SEN, including ASC, ADHD, SEMH, or other learning needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
