As a Systems Engineer at Northrop Grumman, you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Enterprise-wide digital transformation. The Northrop Grumman Microelectronics Design and Applications (MDA) Business Area's (BA) Research Computing (RC) organization seeks high-performance computing (HPC) professionals to support its growing teams of scientists and engineers. The MDA RC organization is responsible for the design, development, deployment, security, operation, monitoring, management, and support of all computational hardware and software used for basic research, modeling and simulation, circuit design, and circuit testing. RC oversees multiple highly complex large compute clusters that are required in the daily work of users of diverse backgrounds, roles, and responsibilities. RC is searching for HPC operations, administration, and applications experts excited to learn new technologies and contribute to a highly dynamic organization. Responsibilities Monitor and maintain security of high-performance compute clusters Interface with HPC Systems Engineers to propose modifications to system configurations to maintain security compliance Interface with customers to assess requests to modify system security posture Assess security risks of software proposed for use on high-performance compute systems Work with System Administrators to configure or reconfigure operating systems, software, and services in order to meet security control requirements while maintaining system functionality Interface with enterprise cybersecurity staff to align with security compliance posture and justify deviations from accepted security baselines Position can be worked out of Annapolis Junction or Linthicum sites Position can be filled as a Principal Systems Engineer or Sr. Principal Systems Engineer Basic Qualifications for a Principal Systems Engineer Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with 5 years' relevant experience; 3 years’ experience with a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline or 1 year with a PhD. Strong Linux proficiency (RHEL experience a plus) Working knowledge and experience with concepts of network fabrics for high-performance computing applications Demonstrated knowledge and experience maintaining compliance with Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) Working knowledge and experience monitoring and maintaining high-performance network hardware Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain/maintain a TS/SCI clearance with full scope poly Basic Qualifications for a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with 8 years' relevant experience; 6 years' experience with a Master’s degree; 4 years with PhD. Strong Linux (Red Hat) proficiency Strong knowledge and experience with concepts of network fabrics for high-performance computing applications Strong knowledge and experience maintaining compliance with Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) Strong knowledge and experience monitoring and maintaining high-performance network hardware Experience directing technical work for a small effort or initiative Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain/maintain a TS/SCI clearance with full scope poly Preferred qualifications Active TS/SCI with full-scope polygraph security clearance IAT Level II certification Experience with high-performance computing system operations Experience with meeting and assessing security controls as defined in NIST 800-53A.
