Job Description:

Johns Hopkins Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Advanced Practice Provider, Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant to join our esteemed General Surgery team. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) will provide exceptional care to patients in the general surgery unit during overnight shifts, working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the highest standards of patient care.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of general surgery patients, including history taking, physical examinations, and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with surgeons, intensivists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Provide advanced clinical care, including post-operative management, wound care, and other necessary procedures.
  • Monitor patient progress, adjusting treatment plans based on clinical findings and patient response.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide critical care support as needed.
  • Educate patients and their families on surgical procedures, post-operative care, and discharge instructions.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure continuity of care from admission through discharge and follow-up.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical research projects.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing or Masters in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program.
  • Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Maryland.
  • National certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Physician Assistant (PA).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in general surgery or critical care.
  • Advanced clinical skills in surgical care, including post-operative management and emergency response.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to providing compassionate and patient-centered care.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
