LSF is looking for a talented Vocational Mentor who wants to make an impact in the lives of others.

Purpose & Impact: 

Vocational Mentors are responsible for assisting eligible youth through various aspects of their career development, helping them make informed decisions about their educational and career paths. This position also provide support in exploring educational opportunities, and developing long-term career plans.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct assessments to evaluate youth’s interests, skills, values, and personality traits to help them make informed career decisions.
  • Provide one-on-one or group mentoring sessions to youth seeking guidance in their career choices, job search, or professional development.
  • Assist youth in learning about career pathways.
  • Provide information about educational and training programs that align with clients' career objectives.
  • Develop and conduct pre-employment and work adjustment training sessions for clients.
  • Assist clients in creating effective resumes and cover letters that highlight their qualifications and accomplishments.
  • Build and maintain relationships with employers, educational institutions, and other stakeholders to enhance job placement opportunities for clients.
  • Effective tracking of individuals' career development.
  • Responsible for meal prepared and served with youth in accordance with state regulations.
  • Attends all training meetings as required by state and federal guidelines and accreditation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to sit and stand for long periods, use telephone, computer skills.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to work flexible hours and weekends.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent.  Post-secondary or vocational studies (or above) preferred.

Experience:

1 to 2 years’ experience in a marketable vocational field required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to adjust to changing priorities and work effectively with a culturally diverse staff and clients.
  • Ability to take initiative and to work independently as well as within a team environment.
  • Good interpersonal techniques to facilitate positive interaction with other staff, the general public, and the clients.
  • Knowledge of software applications (Word, Excel, and Power Point).
  • Excellent written, organizational, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Dependable and reliable.

Other:

Must demonstrate sensitivity to our service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and needs. Must also have:

  • A clean/valid Florida Driver License for at least (2) years and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass a Level II background screening and drug test.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Reports to the Vocational Coordinator.
  • Accurate and timely entries in client’s case files.
  • Able to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Adherence to LSF personnel policies and procedures.
