Northrop Grumman Space Systems is searching for an experienced candidate to lead the Office of the Chief Engineer (OCE) for the Glide Phase Interceptor (GPI) program within the Launch Vehicles business unit in Chandler, AZ.
This position reports to the Launch Vehicles Business Unit Chief Engineer and works in concert with the GPI Program Management team to execute program objectives. As the leader of the OCE, you will manage a staff of product specific Chief Engineers and hold the primary technical responsibility for the program. You will partner with Program Engineering Managers (PEM’s) and Chief Engineers to achieve efficient, effective, and innovative engineering solutions that fully comply with customer requirements. You will co-lead the development and execution of technical reviews. This role also includes helping ensure proper allocation and coordination of engineering resources through the program IPT structure.
Support Program Management team with broad technical experience and down-and-in technical guidance to support PEMs and product specific chief engineers.
Act as the primary technical interface to the customer, and maintain strong working relationships with the Customer, providing timely communication and engaging to resolve technical questions posed by the Customer.
Support high-rate production through design to cost initiatives
Deliver quick and thorough resolution of non-conformances and other challenges that might arise, including leading failure investigations and presentation of findings to internal and customer review boards.
Act as a motive force to implement Digital Transformation efforts.
Bring mature engineering leadership to the coordination and performance of internal reviews like ERB, CCB, IFRR and design reviews.
Ensure coordination between programs on common technical issues and strategic initiatives.
Ensure that designs and hardware builds meet all internal and Customer requirements, especially across engineering discipline boundaries. Provide justification and adjudicate through proper boards any deviations or waivers to such requirements.
Actively participate and guide proposal and RFI responses.
Perform other duties, as necessary, commensurate with the role of GPI Chief Engineer.
Basic Qualifications:
This position requires 16+ Years of related experience with a Bachelors of Science in Engineering; 14+ Years with Masters; 12+ Years with PhD.
Position requires 100% on-site presence.
Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope
Technical leadership experience or previous Chief Engineer experience.
Experience in Weapons Systems to include design, operation, and production
Experience with integrated system management and broad technical oversight.
Well-versed, skilled, and disciplined in system engineering processes.
Self-starter who can drive technical decisions.
U.S Citizenship.
Ability to travel 25%.
Preferred Qualifications
This position requires a BS degree in Engineering plus 20 (twenty) years of related experience is preferred.
Familiarity with the MDA organization and its methods of technical execution and review.
Experience with multiple types of launch platforms.
Experience with tactical execution of field operations.
Experience with the functional management of PEMs and Chief Engineers.
Supervisory or management responsibilities for projects engaged in research and/or product development in more than one engineering discipline.
Salary Range: $175,600 - $263,400The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
