Tactical Space Systems Mission Assurance is looking for a Quality Engineer located in our Gilbert AZ office. The qualified candidate will provide Quality Assurance consultation and guidance to program and/or software deployment team leadership to identify risks, tailor process requirements, and share best practices.  They will lead mission/quality assurance assessments of process/project quality, supplier quality, and escalate critical or recurring issues to appropriate levels of management.  The selected individual(s) must be self-starters have experience in risk management, root cause analysis/corrective action and process mapping/process building.  They will be familiar with AS9100, AS9145, continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, and Agile.  They must be strongly self-directed and result driven accustomed to working autonomously and with teams.  Project scopes will range across full lifecycle of software development, integration, and test.   The selected individual should have a servant leader attitude along with a proactive mindset. We are looking for enablers of the quality/mission process that are proactive.

Additional Responsibilities include:

  • Understand the requirements of a company policy, standard or process, and determine how best to apply it to quality/ compliance review recognizing when requirements are not being satisfactorily met and have the courage to challenge upward.
  • Audit systems for deficiency identification and correction ensuring that all corrective measures are effective and timely.
  • Partner with project/program leadership to foster effective teaming and continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate problem resolution, root cause analysis and operational efficiencies applying best practices/lessons learned.
  • Assist with supplier quality, service management and escalate critical and/or recurring issues to appropriate levels of management.
  • Develops, modifies, applies and maintains quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product.
  • Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place.
  • Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.
  • Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications.
  • Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and correction.
  • Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements.
  • May specialize in the areas of design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality.
  • May be certified in lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies.

This position can be filled as an Engineer (level 2) or Principal Engineer (level 3) depending on candidate experience and qualifications.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related STEM field
  • 2+ years (level 2) or 5+ years (level 3) of relevant experience
  • U.S. citizen
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance
  • Able to read engineering documentation and inspect to drawings and parts lists, inspection plans, and supplemental instructions
  • Solid knowledge base in electrical or mechanical field of expertise
  • Minimum 2 years experience in either Electrical or Mechanical / Electro-mechanical field of work performing Engineering job function
  • Fluent in use of Microsoft applications and ability to quickly learn new computer programs/applications.
  • Excellent technical writing skills is mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge base in Root Cause Analysis tools, such as Ishikawa, FMEA, DOE, etc.
  • Knowledge base in lean manufacturing principles and/or Six Sigma principles.
  • 5 years of experience in either Electrical or Mechanical / Electro-mechanical field of work performing Engineering job function
  • Working knowledge of TipQA and/or Costpoint database applications
  • Knowledge in how to read schematics and wirelists
  • Willingness to travel (though not often) in support of S/C level activities.
  • Specific Lean or Six Sigma training from accredited institution.
  • Active Top Secret clearance
Salary Range: $68,000 - $92,000
Salary Range 2: $84,000 - $116,000
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
