Job Duties


Performs and reports various analyses of multiple specimen sources. Performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and maximize patient satisfaction. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area.

Position Details

$12,500 SIGN ON INCENTIVE FOR QUALIFIED APPLICANTS!  (EVENINGS)

As a generalist with our second shift medical laboratory team, you’ll work in multiple areas and refine your skills through time spent in blood bank, toxicology, urinalysis, chemistry, hematology, and more! As a member of the laboratory team at Geisinger Medical Center (GMC), you’ll support a 500+ bed Level I trauma and comprehensive stroke center AND perform testing for the entire eight-hospital system. This role will do automated, semi-automated, and manual testing in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.

With the volume of specimens processed at GMC, you’ll test abnormal specimens daily in addition to completing life-saving routine testing like hemoglobin A1C, lipids, kidney function, drug screens, and volatiles. You’ll also work with state-of-the-art automated testing equipment and support quality control measures, troubleshoot instrumentation, and verify results on front-end processing equipment. This position will also have the opportunity to learn flow cytometry.

This position offers a second and third shift retention incentive, pro-rated and paid out in July of each year. This position qualifies for shift differential and voluntary staffing incentives as schedules require.

Education Qualification and Details  

Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist: 

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of an ASCP/NAACLS-accredited Medical Technology program OR; 
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP categorical certification OR; 
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory 
  • HEW

Medical Lab Technician: 

  • Associate degree in a laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) from an accredited institution as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) 

Military experience will be considered. US Army 68K Medical Laboratory Specialist, US Navy Medical Laboratory Technician, US Air Force Medical Laboratory Apprentice.
