At Northrop Grumman, our employees have incredible opportunities to work on revolutionary systems that impact people's lives around the world today, and for generations to come. Our pioneering and inventive spirit has enabled us to be at the forefront of many technological advancements in our nation's history - from the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean, to stealth bombers, to landing on the moon. We look for people who have bold new ideas, courage and a pioneering spirit to join forces to invent the future, and have fun along the way. Our culture thrives on intellectual curiosity, cognitive diversity and bringing your whole self to work — and we have an insatiable drive to do what others think is impossible. Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history. Northrop Grumman is seeking a talented Electrical Systems Architecture and Integration Engineer to join our Tactical Space Systems Division under the Electrical Systems Integration and Architecture group. Candidate should have a very strong Electrical Engineering background and ability to expand beyond a box-level design to a system-level perspective. Electrical System Engineers are Systems Engineers who incorporate Electrical Engineering experience to bridge the gap between groups to lessen design escapes and improve processes. This position will be located in Dulles, VA, Gilbert, AZ or Space Park, CA. This position description does not represent a current opening but may be used to identify candidates with skills and experience for positions within Northrop Grumman that frequently become available. Candidates who express an interest may be considered for future positions at Northrop Grumman. Roles & Responsibilities: As part of the Electrical Systems Architecture and Integration functional homeroom, the Electrical Systems Engineer, will be responsible for a range of tasks. These tasks may be performed concurrently or at different stages of a program’s lifecycle: Develops and evaluates flight-vehicle electrical system architecture alternatives in concert with the broader systems engineering effort to select an electrical-system architecture that meets the customer’s needs. Drive open design to completion and solve design issues (e.g. propose solutions, support mass reduction initiatives) Performs electrically focused requirement analysis and decomposition as part of the systems engineering translation of customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. Performs analyses to evaluate all levels of the system to ensure a cohesive electrical-system solution throughout the development lifecycle (concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal). Manages the internal & external flight-vehicle electrical interfaces (such as data, power, RF) and develops the corresponding system-level interconnect/block diagrams, grounding diagrams, electrical schematics and global connectivity list for the flight vehicle. Oversees the technical planning, design integration, product integration, verification, and validation efforts for the electrical-system elements throughout the development lifecycle. Influences the electrical-system design to facilitate electrical testing at the component, subsystem, and flight-vehicle levels, with the aim to enable automated testing where applicable. Perform electrical interface compatibility verifications (e.g. check component external interfaces compatibility including interconnecting harness, sneak circuit analysis) Perform power management verifications - analyses and documentation (e.g. voltage drop, round trip resistance, impedance, power stability, circuit protection, electrical load analysis) Development system-level electrical verification (e.g. method, objective, event, activity, success criteria, author test plan) Review suppliers “as-planned”, “as-designed”, and “as-built” documentation (e.g. interface control document, derating analysis, worst case analysis, qualification test plan and procedure, acceptance test plan and procedure, test report) Conduct characterization and risk reduction tests (e.g. evaluate test methods) Manage hardware command and telemetry implementation (e.g. develop and coordinate calibration and conversion curves for analog telemetry in coordination subsystem engineers, verify electrical/software implementation) Verify electrical connectivity implementation (e.g. verify electrical harness implementation, safety-critical circuit segregation, support peer-reviews) Support physical layer verification (e.g. signal integrity) Contribute to assembly integration and test activities (e.g. harness integration and testing, electrical test requirements development, anomaly investigations/resolutions) Document verification activities (e.g. review test artifact, author test report, prepare verification closure notice) Identify electrical systems risks, develop risk mitigation plans for selected risks, and implement mitigations Collaborate and communicate effectively with team members from multiple subsystems and Subject Matter Experts (SME) to achieve integrated solutions. This can include Program Management (PM), Chief Engineer (CE), Lead Systems Engineer (LSE), Electronic Power Systems (EPS), Command and Data Handling (CDH), Integration and Test (I&T), early career individuals and customer counterparts at various levels.
