Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD) has an opening for an Engineer Electromechanical / Principal Electromechanical Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA. Please be aware that this position will also be contingent upon capturing program award, obtaining customer funding, and holding final clearances prior to start date. Principal Electromechanical Engineer / Sr. Principal Electromechanical Engineer responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Participate as RDE (Responsible Design Engineer) in entire design cycle of gimbals and actuators. Includes conceptual and detailed design, tooling design, trade studies, development testing, unit qualification, issue resolution, and dispositioning of discrepant hardware. Coordinate the development of unit requirements and verification plans with systems engineering and other engineering functions. Identify long lead procurements, make/buy options, need for spares/attrition, critical paths, and parallel paths for manufacturing. Lead drawing release activities and hardware procurement efforts. Develop and support execution of IMS and MPS. Provide weekly schedule and cost updates between the RDE team and program management. Create and present content for internal reviews (IDRs, MRRs, TRRs) and external reviews (SSR, PDR, CDR) in collaboration with lead RDE and other engineering functions. Create and/or check for completeness and accuracy equipment specifications, manufacturing drawings, tooling drawings, assembly guidelines, test procedures and manufacturing flows. Coordinate with PMEs and planners on WO pre-release reviews, production tabletops, manufacturing progress or holdups, and WO closeouts. Ensure proper resource allocation from M&S manufacturing. Basic Qualifications for Principal Electromechanical Engineer: Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical engineering, Aerospace engineering, or STEM Degree from an accredited institution with 5 years of professional engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in Mechanical engineering, Aerospace engineering, or STEM Degree with 3 years of professional engineering experience; OR a Ph.D with 1 year of professional engineering experience. Experience with industry standard design tools including CATIA V5, Enovia, AIAA S-114-2021 Mechanical Moving Assemblies and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T) applications. Must have an active Secret U.S. Government security clearance at time of application. Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Electromechanical Engineer: Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical engineering, Aerospace engineering, or STEM Degree from an accredited institution with 8 years of professional engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in Mechanical engineering, Aerospace engineering, or STEM Degree with 5 years of professional engineering experience; OR a Ph.D with 3 year of professional engineering experience. Experience with industry standard design tools including CATIA V5, Enovia, AIAA S-114-2021 Mechanical Moving Assemblies and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T) applications. Experience with the design, development, and implementation of aerospace mechanical systems as well as a working knowledge of complex mechanical subsystems and integration of subsystems hardware into Air & Spacecraft Systems. Must have an active Secret U.S. Government security clearance at time of application. Preferred Qualifications: Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Knowledge of Lean Engineering principles.
