Microelectronics | Northrop Grumman One of our most challenging new fields is Microelectronics Design and Applications (MDA), which combines the unique properties of superconductivity and quantum mechanics to develop radical new energy-efficient computing systems. MDA is seeking a Principal / Sr. Principal Test Systems Engineer to join our team and develop these technologies into high-performance computing systems. You’ll work in a fast-paced team environment alongside physicists, design engineers, and superconducting foundry engineers to make these technologies a reality. Principal / Sr. Principal Engineer Test Systems Engineer Responsibilities: Support test and test development activities for superconducting electronics development. Develop automated testing procedures for the characterization and validation of fabrication methods in superconducting devices. Communicate project status to the Test Support Lead. Collaborate with research scientists and systems engineers to perform system architecture characterization studies on various system components. Design, develop, and implement testing methods for individual pieces of equipment (both custom and COTS) and entire systems. Compile data and help to define changes required in testing methodology, equipment, testing procedures, manufacturing processes, and new testing requirements. This position requires full time work onsite at our Linthicum, MD OR Annapolis Junction, MD location. This position can be filled at the Principal or Sr. Principal level. Qualifications for each level below. Basic Qualifications for Principal Systems Test Engineer: Bachelor's degree in Science discipline with 5 years of experience, a Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 3 years of experience, or a PhD in a STEM discipline with 0 years of experience or will consider 9 years of experience in lieu of a degree. This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. citizen. Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI with poly clearance per business requirements. Working knowledge in one of the following languages: Matlab, Python, C, or C++. Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills. Ability to use basic hand tools. Ability to communicate effectively to team members both verbally and in writing. Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Systems Test Engineer: Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 8 years of experience, a Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 6 years of experience, or a PhD in a STEM discipline with 3 years of experience or will consider 12 years of experience in lieu of a degree. This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. citizen. Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI with poly clearance per business requirements. Working knowledge in one of the following languages: Matlab, Python, C, or C++. Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills. Ability to use basic hand tools. Ability to communicate effectively to team members both verbally and in writing. Preferred Qualifications: Active TS/SCI with poly security clearance. Bachelor’ Degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field specializing in RF microwave engineering, RF test engineering, and/or RF systems engineering with 8 years of experience, or 6 years of experience with a Master’ Degree. Working knowledge of standard test equipment: network analyzers, oscilloscopes, waveform generators, synthesizers, digitizers, and/or signal analyzers. Working knowledge of standard design components: filters, couplers, splitters, amplifiers, etc. Familiarity with cryogenic test systems: dilution Refrigeration, 4 Kelvin cryo-coolers, Adiabatic Demagnetization Refrigeration (ADR) and liquid helium emersion.
