This NPI ENGINEERING LEADER - CORE position will be located in the Howmet Morristown, TN core facility and will be a technical leader with responsibility for executing activities around new product introductions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is responsible for technical leadership in the development and implementation of complex and critical aerospace components in the most economical and profitable way to Howmet. This involves developing tooling, fixtures and gauges to produce and inspect the dimensional characteristics to ensure that parts consistently meet or exceed our customers’ requirements for the dimensional integrity and performance of these aerospace components. Also, continuous improvement of processes by improving methods and developing new methods of manufacturing, leading to increased yields and reduced labor content. 

  • Functions as both an individual contributor and as a technical leader to other engineers. 
  • Manage and direct the New Product Introduction (NPI) initiative ensuring ceramic core development in accordance with overall project timelines, budget, and quoted standards.
  • Lead initiatives to achieve product yield improvements, variation reduction, and achieve cost reduction goals related to the manufacture of ceramic cores/parts.
  • Supervise, direct and manage the activities regarding product tool/part designs and standards.
  • The Core Engineering Leader is accountable to the NPI engineering team and is the first tier of the help chain.  The leader guides the engineering team towards successful completion of goals and objectives and helps to set direction relative to team dynamics; setting the tone for how the team interacts with each other, other groups in NPI, and the manufacturing plant in general.
  • Support the evaluation and implementation of cost and product improvements and drive problem solving activities.
  • Establish professional working relationships with the engineering team at each casting facility and promote effective communication regarding product status and issues.
  • Work directly with engine manufacturer’s engineering team in conjunction with the casting facility’s engineering team to optimize core design and producibility as required through concurrent engineering.
  • Responsible for creating an environment of engagement and fostering development of the core engineering team.
  • Manage training development strategies for the NPI core engineering team.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring NPI core engineers in the department while also providing support as a resource for other departments and generic improvement activities.
  • Develops scrap and labor costs for cost modeling.  Defines, solicits and reviews quotes for tooling and cores.
  • Defines and implements control plans and FMEA per customer requirements; Collects, analyzes and prepares statistical data per control plan.
  • Initiates, prepares and validates dimensional qualification packages to meet customer requirements.
  • Provides leadership and single point of accountability (SPA) on all critical product concerns.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution. 
  • A minimum of 7 years experience as a ceramic core engineer in the investment casting industry.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, statistical analysis, and scientific methods for problem solving. 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.
  • Ability to manipulate and interrogate CAD models.
  • Have good organizational skills.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution in the following disciplines preferred: Mechanical Engineer, Aerospace Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer.
  • Leadership experience with technical support staff.
  • Fluency with CAD software, preferably with Siemens NX. 
  • Experience in new process control development and product start ups.
  • Project management experience.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Proven problem-solving skills using sound fundamentals as well as history of trials/execution of improvements.
  • Ability to effectively work/communicate as part of a project team.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and activities.
