As we continue to expand, we are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Controller to oversee the financial operations of the business and drive strategic financial decisions.

Role Overview: The Financial Controller will be responsible for managing and overseeing all financial aspects of the retail SME business. The successful candidate will ensure the financial integrity of the business, provide accurate financial reporting, and assist in strategic planning to promote growth. The role requires a hands-on approach, with the ability to manage a small team, implement financial controls, and collaborate closely with senior management.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Management:

    • Oversee daily financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.

    • Manage the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow).

    • Monitor financial performance and provide insights to senior management on profitability, cost control, and financial trends.

  2. Accounting & Compliance:

    • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies.

    • Review and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring the accuracy of financial records.

    • Coordinate and manage the year-end audit process with external auditors.

  3. Cash Flow & Working Capital:

    • Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity for day-to-day operations.

    • Analyse working capital requirements and implement strategies for efficient inventory management and supplier payments.

  4. Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A):

    • Develop and manage budgets and forecasts for all departments, providing detailed financial analysis and recommendations.

    • Support the management team with strategic decision-making by providing financial insights and scenario analysis.

    • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide regular reports to the leadership team.

  5. Internal Controls & Risk Management:

    • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.

    • Identify and mitigate financial risks to the business, particularly in areas such as inventory management and cash flow.

  6. Team Management & Development:

    • Lead and manage the finance team, providing mentorship and professional development opportunities.

    • Streamline processes to improve efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.

  7. Financial Systems & Process Improvement:

    • Continuously assess and improve financial systems, software, and reporting tools to support business growth.

    • Automate and optimise accounting and financial reporting processes where possible.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent qualification preferred).

  • Proven experience (5+ years) in a financial management role, preferably within a retail SME or similar industry.

  • Strong knowledge of retail accounting practices and financial management.

  • In-depth understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.

  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel; experience with retail management systems is a plus.

  • Exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
