Credit Rating and Research Manager

Job Title: Credit Rating and Research Manager

Location: Buckinghamshire

Reporting to: Chief Investment Officer

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain risk and rating framework, ensuring risks are documented and approved for each asset class
  • Conduct thorough analysis of liquid and private credit portfolio and new opportunities and effectively communicates those outcomes
  • Complete annual review cycle of rating methodology of external manager and internal ratings on the portfolio
  • In collaboration with the fund manager, gather and process information on proposed asset classes and transactions, including the review of the market, publicly rated peers, transaction structure and legal documentation
  • Portfolio monitoring, working with fund manager to ensure information flow and on-going monitoring of the loan portfolio
  • Criteria development and processes, owning the internal rating procedures
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the partial internal model for credit risk
  • Ensuring comparability of internal and external ratings approach through update of internal criteria in response to external evolution
  • Data management, identifying, designing and implementing internal process improvement
  • Support the wider investment team and CIO as required
  • Comply with the FCA’s conduct (and senior conduct) and Consumer Duty rules and the PRA’s conduct (and senior manager conduct) standards.
  • Notify the regulator(s) of matters reasonably expected to be notified.

Core Competencies:

  • Understanding of the key risk and controls needed for managing unrated credit.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, including Board level, and to motivate a team.
  • Good presentation, communication, delegation, negotiation and conflict management skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of credit risks and rating methodologies.
  • Excellent planner and organiser, pragmatic, adaptable and flexible.
  • Strong customer, stakeholder and people management skills
  • Strong project management skills

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Credit Ratings or risk background with 5+ years in similar role or at Ratings Agency.
  • Experience in the asset management/investment or Rating agency industry.
  • Experience managing relationships with a range of third parties and Investment Managers, preferably external.
  • Experience of the regulatory environment and industry awareness in the UK for life offices and working with the regulators.
