A supportive and inclusive secondary school in Colindale, Barnet, are looking for a SEN TA for a January start. This SEN TA role would involve working 1-1 with a student with SEN and SEMH (social, emotional and mental health) needs, in a mainstream secondary environment. As a SEN TA , you would have experience supporting children and young people with SEN / SEMH needs/challenging behaviour, alongside a desire to work with young people in a secondary environment. This is a full time, long term role in a mainstream secondary school, with trials commencing shortly.

As a SEN teaching assistant, you will be supporting both the staff and students. The school is flexible with an inclusive ethos which ensures there are consistently high expectations for all. If you are looking to gain classroom experience in a supportive environment, this could be a great opportunity for you. They are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic individual who is keen to make a difference and support young people. This could also suit a recent psychology (or similar) graduate who has a strong understanding of SEN and SEMH needs, with limited practical experience.

Required:

  • Experience working with inidivudals with SEN and SEMH and/or challenging behaviour
  • A Bachelor's degree
  • Interest in working with children (specifically with SEN)
  • Experience working with secondary school children (age 11-16) in some capacity (desirable but not essential)
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Either have or be willing to get an enhanced DBS on the update service, plus provide two references

Responsibilities:

Exact responsibilities will depend on role but may include:

  • Working with children aged 11-16 operating classes in various subjects.
  • Helping children with special educational needs
  • Engaging with students for 4-5 periods
  • Treating children with respect and kindness
