GSL Education are seeking a committed SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) with expertise in Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) support to join a fantastic school in Barnet. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about making a tangible difference in the lives of children with additional learning needs.

About the role:

In the role of a SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA), you will play a crucial role in supporting students with a range of learning difficulties, emotional challenges and behavioural needs. Your role will involve providing both one-to-one and small-group support, ensuring students feel encouraged, valued and empowered in their learning journey.

Responsibilities of the SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA):

  • Assist students with SEN and SEMH needs, helping them to engage with the curriculum and develop essential life skills.
  • Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's needs.
  • Deliver high-quality, differentiated instruction to students with SEN.
  • Work closely with classroom Teaching Assistants to create an inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting strategies as needed.
  • Provide support and guidance to Teaching Assistants and other staff working with SEN students.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and carers about student progress and needs.
  • Stay informed about current best practices and developments in special education.

Requirements of the SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA):

  • Experience working with children with SEN and/or SEMH needs in an educational or support setting.
  • A degree in Psychology, Education, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of various SEN conditions, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, Dyslexia and Emotional & Behavioural Disorders and Speech and Language difficulties.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
  • A genuine passion for working with children with special educational needs.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
