Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer

Location: Barnstaple, North Devon

Hours: 4-day working week option available

About the Role:

As an HSE Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations across the site. You will lead initiatives to maintain and improve safety culture, implement policies, and promote best practices to create a safe and sustainable workplace.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor HSE programs and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and internal standards.
  • Conduct safety audits and risk assessments, ensuring any discrepancies are resolved.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses, maintaining detailed records and providing actionable recommendations.
  • Deliver HSE training and support to all employees, including new hire orientation.
  • Lead 6S initiatives and drive improvements in environmental and safety practices.
  • Serve as the site contact for regulatory agencies and support management in understanding HSE compliance requirements.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement in health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Manage the site emergency response team and related processes.

About You:

To succeed in this role, you'll bring:

  • Experience in a similar HSE role, ideally within a manufacturing or office environment.
  • A NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent) in health, safety, and environmental management.
  • Strong knowledge of safety legislation, regulations, and standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • High personal safety standards and a proactive, self-motivated approach.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages and familiarity with HSE accreditation processes.

Desirable Skills:

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • 5+ years of experience in an HSE role within a manufacturing environment.
