About Us:Our client is committed to delivering high-quality education and support across all campuses. We are currently seeking a dedicated Financial Controller to lead our finance function, ensuring efficient financial services while maintaining the integrity of all accounting processes.

Role Overview:As the Financial Controller, you will be responsible for the operational leadership of the finance department, ensuring that financial services are delivered in compliance with college policies, procedures, and financial regulations. Your role will involve streamlining processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management:

- Oversee the day-to-day operation of financial and management accounting systems.- Prepare year-end financial statements in accordance with accounting standards and Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) requirements.- Support the annual budget setting process and provide timely financial reports and reconciliations.

Budget Oversight:

- Liaise with budget holders regarding financial performance and forecasts, ensuring value for money and compliance with financial regulations.- Maintain and update the college's financial regulations and procedures.

Team Leadership:

- Manage and motivate finance staff, ensuring high performance and professional development.- Lead on quality improvement initiatives and contribute to self-assessment processes.

Stakeholder Engagement:

- Act as a key point of contact for internal and external audits, financial inquiries, and compliance matters.- Represent the college in discussions with external agencies and committees.

Person Specification:

Essential Qualifications:

Part or fully qualified CCAB Accountant.

Level 2 in Maths and English (A-C equivalent).

Knowledge and Skills:

Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel, and experienced with financial management software.

Strong understanding of VAT compliance, financial regulations, and management accounting.

Experience:

Extensive experience in financial and management accounting within a medium-sized organisation, preferably in the public or third sector.

Proven track record in preparing year-end statutory accounts and managing staff.
