We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Supervisor (Person in Charge) to oversee and directly supervise day-to-day mechanical operations. Reporting to the Senior Supervisor, you will ensure work is completed to the highest standards, adhering to legislative requirements and company HSE policies. This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for a professional with a strong mechanical background and supervisory experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise mechanical works, ensuring compliance with RAMS, design specifications, and safety systems.
- Collaborate with the Senior Supervisor to identify potential challenges and maintain project timelines.
- Supply detailed information for shift reports to assist the Construction Manager.
- Conduct regular site inspections, safety audits, and implement HSE initiatives.
- Coordinate the mechanical safety system's implementation, including issuing and cancelling permits.
- Proactively mentor Competent Persons (CPs) towards achieving Authorised Person (AP) status.
- Address high-risk system concerns by consulting with the SAP (Senior Authorised Person).
- Champion site safety management and immediately escalate safety concerns.
- Ensure all personnel carrying out work are competent and meet the required standards.
- Participate in training sessions to enhance knowledge and maintain certification.
Technical Knowledge & Skills (Essential):
- Extensive knowledge of mechanical methodologies, techniques, and HSE legislation.
- Familiarity with detailed safety standards and ability to supervise within a structured safety framework.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to mentor team members and coordinate effectively.
- Proficiency in IT tools such as MS Word and Excel.
- SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme).
- NVQ Level 4 in Supervision or NVQ Level 3 in a relevant technical discipline.
- Certifications in:
- Abrasive Wheels
- Asbestos Awareness
- First Aid (3-day course)
- Confined Space (medium)
- Oxy-Fuel Cutting and Burning
- MEWP Operator
- PASMA Tower Training
- Manual Handling
- Working at Height
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Supervisor within an M&E sub-contractor environment.
- Strong delegation, decision-making, and problem-solving skills in a high-pressure setting.
- Effective communication and leadership abilities to manage diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Flexibility to travel nationwide and work out of hours, including nights and weekends.
- NVQ L2 or L4 in Controlling Lifting Operations.
- CPCS (Blue) Lifting Operations or Crane Supervisor certification.
- Harness Inspection certification and Plant/Vehicle Marshaller experience.
- Experience in mentoring CPs and other team members.
