Job Title: Transport Manager (Night Shift)

Location: BrentwoodSalary: £42,000 - £45,000 per annum (depending on experience)Shift Pattern: Sun-Thurs, 17:00 - 02:00

We are a leading logistics provider within the medical sector, committed to delivering essential medical supplies with precision and reliability. We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Transport Manager to lead our night shift operations, ensuring seamless logistics and excellent service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Night Shift Operations: Manage all night shift activities, authorising operational changes as required to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
  • Handover Process: Carry out a detailed handover with day staff at the start of the shift and review the handover document for key information.
  • Breakdowns Management: Oversee all tractor/trailer breakdowns during the shift, ensuring all incidents are recorded on the Transport Management System (TMS).
  • Client Schedule Coordination: Review the daily move sheet against the most recent client schedules and ensure all details are accurate.
  • Driver Coordination: Confirm tasks with drivers for the night, ensuring they are aware of sites, trailers, and any additional requirements, such as cleans.
  • RHA App Usage: Ensure all planned drivers use the RHA app before their move and that 4 damage control photos are received.
  • Vehicle Checks: Complete before-and-after check sheets with drivers as per client agreements via phone.
  • Site Arrival Confirmation: Ensure drivers send WhatsApp photos upon arrival at the site, confirming setup, and ensure these match approved set-up comparisons. Speak to the driver before they leave the site.
  • Incident Escalation: Escalate any personal injuries, serious accidents, or incidents, and alert the HOL/COO in case of any potential move failures.
  • Transport Plan Adjustments: Review and adjust transport plans to ensure trailers reach their destinations as scheduled.
  • Client Communication: Liaise with clients throughout the shift, advising them of any issues that may affect same-day scanning.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Complete daily movement sheets, KPIs, and other required documentation to maintain accurate records.
  • Site Pack Maintenance: Ensure site packs are updated and maintained as required.
  • Seamless Handover: Work closely with the Logistics Manager to ensure smooth handovers and accurate information transfer between shifts.
  • Team Management: Employ and interview potential new night shift team members. Maintain Timetastic for sickness/holidays of night staff, and conduct appraisals and disciplinary procedures (Stage 1).
  • Escalation Point: Be the escalation point for any night team member issues and resolve them in a timely manner.

What We're Looking For:

  • Proven experience in managing transport operations, ideally in a logistics or medical delivery environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in managing and motivating a night shift team.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a calm, decisive approach in high-pressure situations.
  • A solid understanding of transport regulations and compliance.
  • CPC qualification would be an advantage.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with both internal teams and clients.
  • Ability to work independently and make key decisions during the night shift.
