As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in helping students overcome challenges and achieve their full potential, both academically and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individualised Support: Provide one-to-one and group support to students with SEMH needs, focusing on their unique learning and emotional requirements.
  • Learning Assistance: Work closely with teachers to deliver tailored learning plans, adapting lessons to meet the individual needs of each student.
  • Behavioural Guidance: Implement effective behaviour management strategies to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment, promoting emotional stability.
  • Emotional Development: Encourage the social and emotional development of students, building their self-esteem, resilience, and social skills.
  • Progress Monitoring: Track and document student progress, participating in regular meetings and reviews with teaching staff, parents, and external specialists.
  • Team Collaboration: Liaise with teachers, counsellors, and other support staff to ensure a holistic approach to each student's education and well-being.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience working with children or young people, ideally within an SEMH or special needs setting.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • A genuine passion for working with children who have additional needs, particularly those facing social and emotional challenges.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills (GCSEs in Maths and English - minimum Level 2/C Grade).
  • The ability to stay calm under pressure and respond to challenging situations with patience and understanding.
  • A proactive approach to supporting students, adapting to their changing needs in real time.
