Belmont Recruitment are seeking an experienced Brokerage Support Officer to work with Bury Council on a temporary assignment with an intiial duration of three months. This is a full-time role working 37 hours per week (Mon – Fri) on a hybrid basis, with a requirement to work two days per week in the Council’s office.

This is a key role in the Childrens Commissioning Team to ensure the Council identifies and commissions placements and services of high quality which meet the needs of children and evidence value for money.  

Main Duties:

  • To work with Children’s Social Care to source suitable residential or foster home placements for children and young people, considering quality, costs, location & suitability to meet the child/young person’s needs
  • To provide advice on effective commissioning of services for children and young people
  • To work with a range of stakeholders across Children’s Services to develop and implement a coherent approach to commissioning for improving outcomes for children and young people
  • To assist the Contracts and Commissioning Manager in developing and writing appropriate contracts to support the commissioning of services
  • To assist with providing data and management information in respect of placements and other contract requests
  • To assist with the managing the Out of Borough Placements Budget, and devolved resources
  • To provide support to the SEN Team by maintaining a record of placements, raising contracts and payment of invoices for out of borough schools

Essential Criteria:

  • Previous experience in a similar role working in a Commissioning/Brokerage team within a Local Authority
  • Experience of working in Children’s Social Care & knowledge of the Children’s Homes, Fostering, Care Leaver & Supporting Living Regulations
  • Understanding of issues affecting the commissioning of Children’s Services and the related government legislation supporting the modernisation of these services
  • Understanding of contract compliance, and the processes that support this function
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal(
