Your new companyYou will be joining a world leading research institute based in the Cambridge area - who have a wide range of partnerships within academia and pharmaceutical & biotech companies - focusing on research within cancer.The institution has invested heavily in equipment and lab upgrades and fosters a highly collaborative and friendly work environment, where you will be working with leading experts within cancer and biological research.They also offer very generous benefits, a flexible approach to working and make significant investment into the training and development of their staff, so there will be a number of opportunities to develop new and advance existing skills.Your new roleYou will be joining a well-established group, carrying out cutting edge R&D within oncology, and working closely with a very experienced lead bioinformatician and wet lab biologists on a number of projects, providing insights and support on a range of projects. Main responsibilities will include:

  • Analyse large-scale genomics / transcriptomics datasets (single-cell RNA-seq, single-nuclei RNA-seq, bulk RNA-seq)
  • Support discovery and translational research, liaising with other bioinformaticians and wet lab biologists
  • Provide bioinformatics support to other team members and assist in data analysis
  • Devise novel solutions to experimental and analytical problems
  • Train group members in bioinformatics software and basic tools / pipelines
  • Help develop and optimise internal tools and pipelines, scripting in either R or python

What you'll need to succeedAs well as strong communication and organisational skills, you should have:

  • At least an MSc (with PhD preferred) in bioinformatics, biology, computer science, data science, statistics or a related discipline - or equivalent experience
  • Scripting/programming skills in R and/or python, with a preference for those who have optimised or developed tools / pipelines / models for analysing complex biological data
  • Hands-on experience with NGS / genetic, genomic or transcriptomic data (either single cell or bulk RNAseq)
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a wider team on projects

The following are preferred but not essential:

  • Publication record
  • Previous experience within cancer / oncology research
  • Training wet lab biologists or other scientists on bioinformatics
