Head of Core Infrastructure

An exciting opportunity to join one of our key clients as a Head of Core Infrastructure, reporting into the Assistant Director.

1 day a week on-site in Cambridge/Chelmsford.

Salary: 56,000 - 64,000 (DOE)

Day-to-day, your responsibilities will encompass:

  • Lead the planning, acquisition, installation, maintenance, and management of core IT infrastructure and associated cloud services for the company.

  • Provide senior leadership to teams responsible for availability, operation, maintenance, and quality of the core IT infrastructure.

  • Co-lead corporate-wide cyber- and information security provision and incident response, ensuring compliance with statutory and contractual reporting.

  • Develop, deliver, and review University-wide strategies, policies, standards, and performance measures to optimise the efficiency and effectiveness of IT services.

  • Manage the provision and support of IT infrastructure, ensuring maximum availability and minimal service disruption through proactive system monitoring and maintenance.

  • Represent IT Services at a senior level within the company and externally, building strategic relationships with stakeholders, vendors, and professional bodies.

Skills Required:

  • Higher degree or relevant professional qualification at a postgraduate level with significant professional experience in an infrastructure or datacenter management role.

  • Broad range of technical skills with substantial experience in managing IT infrastructure-related technologies in a medium-sized corporate environment.

  • Excellent leadership and influencing skills, with a strong ability to delegate, manage performance, and motivate teams.

  • Familiarity with ITIL Change, Availability, and Capacity Management principles and experience with large support and service contracts.

  • Strong organisational skills, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, and strategic thinking for decision-making.

  • Desirable certifications include ITIL Practitioner, ISO 27001 ISMS Foundation or higher, BCS Foundation Certificate in Information Security Management

  • Principles (CISMP). Experience in higher education and preparing large tenders is also advantageous.
