We are currently recruiting on behalf of one of the UK’s leading providers of behavioural care and specialist support services, for Consultant Psychiatrist - Adult Acute to join the established team in an independent mental health hospital in Cheadle, Stockport.
Set within picturesque landscaped gardens the hospital offers a range of comprehensive inpatient mental health services for young people and adults. The focus of our service is to help people to live their best life in a safe and supportive environment.
Working as part of a multi-skilled, experienced, motivated and creative Multi-Disciplinary Team within a 15 bed acute mental health unit for adult male and female patients offering a 24-hour admission service to support local NHS services and PICU wards. The ethos of the acute ward is to provide support in a crisis and offer therapeutic engagement during the in-patient stay. Situated within the grounds of Cheadle Royal Hospital supporting patients who present with mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, personality disorder, depression, bipolar disorder and other diagnoses. For some patients, the ward will be their first admission to a mental health ward and the MDT will support them to overcome crisis and become well enough to be discharged into the community, whether this be home or to support living. The MDT consists of a Responsible Clinician (RC), Specialty Doctor, Ward Manager, Occupational Therapist, the Nursing Team and Psychology team and the goal of the MDT is to make a real and lasting difference to the lives of patients who come to Evergreen ward.
This is a full time position and offers a competitive salary of £180,000 per annum and involves providing psychiatric care to inpatients alongside providing the clinical leadership on the unit to ensure safe and effective service delivery.
The post is supported by a full time Specialty Doctor or Advanced Practitioner and the post holder will be working within a full Multidisciplinary Team.
Your role will include:
Clinical:
- Working as the Consultant and Responsible Clinician as part of the MDT
- Take overall responsibility for patient care and treatment plans in conjunction with the MDT
- Timely assessment of referrals along with the MDT
- Conducting Comprehensive Assessments and Treatment Planning with patients, external stake holders and carers.
- Chairing MDT/CPA Meetings; Adhering to organisational admission and discharge policy and procedures.
- Timely discharge GP notifications and discharge summaries.
- To contribute to the unit governance through expertise and leadership.
- Prepare and supervise reports for Mental Health Act Review Tribunals & Managers Hearings alongside giving evidence within these meetings.
- Participate in a non-resident second on call out of hour’s rota with a frequency of no more than 1:7
Management:
- Offering Clinical Leadership in collaboration with Ward Manager
- Ensuring Ward is complaint with Organisational and Regulatory requirements
- Attending ward governance meetings with ward manager
- Working with organisational quality improvement (QPIs) initiatives
- Attending Monthly governance meetings.
Academic:
- Attending monthly Academic meeting’s
- Case presentations and teaching
- Participation in audit, research, quality improvement initiatives
Post requirements:
- MBBS or Equivalent Medical Degree and MRCPsych with s12/AC approval
- Full GMC registration with license to practice
- Knowledgeable of the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, along with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Practice
- Committed to continued professional development
- Desirable to have had significant experience of inpatient mental health acute units.
- Able to work collaboratively as a part of a multi-disciplinary team
